Using Employee Assessment Software For Employee Reviews

Employee assessment software is available all over the Internet for companies to evaluate their employees. Some of this software is expensive while others are extremely cheap and sometimes free for the first thirty days. While computers seem to be taking over everything that companies do today from counting inventory to producing financial statements, employee assessment software may not be ready to be taking over this section of the company.

Many companies have departments that are run by a manager that in turns reports to another manager, and so on. These managers that are over the department get to know the employees under them on a very personal basis because they are working with them every day. They know their personality type, their personal life, and much more about the employee. These managers are usually the ones that turn in employee assessments to the managers above them for the employees review.

So, when these managers are filling out their employee assessment, they are able to take all of these factors into effect. While no two people are exactly the same, employee assessment software works as if they are. The managers have the edge because they actually know the employee. Employee assessment software does not know the employee personally. There may be some factors that can be put into the software such as the employee is shy or scared of confrontation. But, other than that, the software does not know the employee which makes it much more difficult to judge the employee assessment.

There are many times that the best employee in a department may have bad quarter because they are going through some stuff at home or they are having a child or they are getting ready to move. Countless things can have an effect on the way an employee performs at their jobs. Many times, if the employee is the best employee in the department, they will go to their manager and let them know what is going on early so that they can be prepared for it. Once again, employee assessment software is not able to do this. They would simply get the numbers for the quarter and say the employee was doing a poor performance at their job. While that may be true, there may be a reason that the manager already accepted before the assessment.

Computer software continues to be improved and enhanced, but there are still many problems with computers describing and assessing people. Humans are still extremely complex for the simple diagnostics of a computer. Many computer personality tests and assessment tests group many employees into a single category even though they are all extremely different. Employee assessment software will surely evolve and may be the standard for employee assessments one day. But for now, it is simply not evolved enough to describe how an employee is doing at their job unless the only thing the company is looking at is numbers. If that is the case, then employee assessment software may be on the top of the list. But most employee assessments deal with more then just numbers.
