Some Ways To Motivate Employees

Employee motivation can be very hard with some companies. Some employees have no desire to be motivated and believe that they are doing their job just fine. These are the employees that require a little extra work, but believe it or not, employee motivation is a key to any businesses success.

There are many different ways for employee motivation. There are tons of books, movies, magazines, and internet articles that can give ways for employee motivation. The number one thing that all of these publications say to motivate employees is by cash rewards. While giving out cash rewards to motivate employees is a great way to motivate them and will work probably 99% of the time, it is not the best way. By giving employees a cash reward, the company is telling the employee that the wages that they are paying them mean nothing and that any work that they do should be rewarded with a bonus. This is not an idea that a company wants in their employee's heads.

Employee motivation should be set up through meetings and encouragement and cash reward on top if everything is done correctly. The guidelines should be very strict and the company should not give out the cash reward if the guidelines are not followed exactly.

Having weekly meetings and making everyone feel like a part of the team is a great way of motivation. This brings everyone together and lets everyone discuss their projects and offer ideas so everyone feels like they are contributing. Many employees say the reason they are not motivated is because they feel that what they are doing is not helping the company. The employees need to be reminded that the company would not be doing well if it weren't for them.

Many companies try to use the reverse of this process and tell the employees there are hundreds of people that could fill their position. While this is true, it is not effective motivation. This way, the employee will only do what is necessary to do so that they are not fired.

Employees can be motivated differently as well. So, while one employee may need to be recognized constantly to be motivated, another employee may never want to be recognized because it is not how their personality works.

Personality plays a large part motivation. Many employees do not want to gather around in a meeting each week because they feel like it is a waste of time while others thrive on that hour each week. So, programs must be set up for each of these types of employees. A company will not function well if half of the employees are motivated and the other half is not motivated. Then, it will seem as if the company is catering towards a specific side of employees and the others will feel left out and the exact opposite of motivation will occur. This is why it is important to get to know the employees on a personal level so that the correct things can be done to motivate them.
