Ideas For Employee RecognitionThere are many employee recognition ideas out there on the Internet and in books. Recognition ideas are available from printing certificates to having an awards dinner top the list but what if a company wants a different type of idea for employee recognition. But, before a company dives into handing out employee recognition, they need to understand what it is and why it is used. The first thing that a company needs to learn is what to recognize. A company may want to do employee recognition but does not know what to recognize. So, they pick out little small things that are unimportant and the employee focus turns to that and the quality of the other work beings to decline. This is a bad example of what companies can do if they do not research employee recognition. The second thing that a company needs to look at is what to give when they are doing employee recognition. The best employee recognition award is something that the employee will keep and remind them of the time that they are rewarded. This way, every time they see the award, they will remember that they want to work harder so they can get another award. Things such as pen holders or name plates are excellent examples of these types of things. Clocks with engraving on them are a great employee recognition gift as well. These types of things are great and are much better then money because once the money is spent, the employee will not even remember the event a couple years down the road. The last thing that a company needs to remember when doing employee recognition is how to recognize. There are different levels of recognition that is based on what type of award is being given and why it is being given. The communication for the award should be clear to both the employer and employee. The employee should never be surprised with an award because they will not be expecting it and they will be confused as to why they are receiving it. For example, if an employee is receiving a cash bonus as part of employee recognition, they should be sat down before the event and told why they were given the award. This prevents future confusion and the employee may think they deserve an award for something down the road even though the previous award had nothing to do with what the employee thinks it does. Employee recognition requires a lot of time and energy. It does not always require a lot of money, but the company should know what they are doing before they start handing out employee recognitions in front of co-workers. Many employees may think it is unfair that a co-worker is receiving an award for doing their job while they are doing their job as well, they are just not a billable part of the company. So, this is why it is important to do a lot of research before doing employee recognition awards. |
