Perform Employee Assessments Online
Many companies are so large today that the Internet is the main way that the communication is sent throughout the company. Hundreds of companies are spread out across a state and the only way to get information from one office to another is through e-mail or fax. While faxes are still used, e-mails are taking over more and more everyday in how information is transmitted throughout companies.
Since most everything else that a company does is online, why wouldn't employee assessments be online? Online employee assessments are becoming a much bigger thing now that video conferencing is available. The employee can have their assessment done right from their office with the manager that is over one thousand miles away. While these techniques are becoming more and more popular there are other online employee assessments as well.
Many employees go online for their assessment and take a test on the Internet about them. These answers are then sent either into the company database or into a computer software program where they are compared with other employees in the same department across the country. These online tests are becoming popular with many companies as well because less time has to be spent on the actual employee and their assessment. The computer can do everything for them and will give them an answer back in an hour or even immediately.

Many times, the computer software is not equipped with what the job responsibilities for the employee are. So, many times, the software will come back with incorrect feedback for the employee. This can sometimes confuse and frustrate the employee because they think they are doing everything right, but the computer is telling them they are wrong. These tests do not perform a valuable assessment on the employee. If the online employee assessments are done at a company, it is important that the results are gone over with the employee so that they can be explained what the computer answers mean. Otherwise, the assessment was just a waste of time and the answers will probably go in the garbage because the employee does not understand them. Online employee assessment tests can be very effective if the manager does not have time to go over every little detail and the computer can summarize some of the characteristics to save time. But, it is important that the manager remember that the computer is only summarizing and that it cannot actually assess how the employee is doing at their job. If the manager looks over the computer printout and can come up with a good explanation of the answers to the employee, than the assessment will be performed beneficially. There are so many things that computers do today for companies, but just as the computer can give a read-out of how the company is doing on a set of financial statements, the managers still have to look at them and understand what they need to do to improve them. It is the same concept with employee reviews. The computer cannot truly assess and improve the employee without human interaction. |
